English Hostels, Group Accommodation, Bunkhouses and Camping Barns in East Anglia
Opened in 2007, and fitted with a wide range of modern facilities, Stour Valley Bunkhouse is set in peaceful surroundings on an historic 1000 acre working farm, an ideal base for exploring Constable Country.
Close to the Stour Estuary, there are excellent opportunities for bird watching, walking and cycling on the doorstep. Alton Water is only 3 miles away for sailing and windsurfing. Ipswich is 6 miles away.
For children of all ages there is a huge choice of local attractions, such as Jimmy’s Farm or Colchester Castle. Colchester Zoo and Sutton Hoo are good options for a wet day, and there are excellent beaches at Dovercourt, Frinton and Walton.
The bunkhouse sleeps up to 20 in 5 rooms. It is self catering, with a shop and pub within a mile.
The bunkhouse is unsuitable for stag parties or groups that are likely to be very noisy or drink heavily.
Public Transport:
Manningtree Station 2.4 miles (less using bridle path) with regular service to London Liverpool St (1hr), Harwich Port and Ipswich. Taxis from Manningtree Station about £4. National Express coaches at Ipswich and Colchester.
Directions:
Grid Reference: TM120340. Six miles south of Ipswich on A137. Look out for The Bull pub, then cross the railway bridge and turn left after 200 yards, between white railings. Follow the drive to the crossroads, turn left and the bunkhouse is on the right hand side.
As well as an amazing range of birds on the Stour Estuary just 5 minutes away, we also have a barn owl that can be seen hunting on the field beside the bunkhouse from teatime most days - wonderful birdlife almost on the doorstep! 21/02/2013 - 2.17pm
