Independent Hostels on the Coast to Coast Cycle Route

Independent Hostels on the Coast to Coast Cycle Route
140 miles in length, the coast to coast cycle route begins in west Cumbria in either Whitehaven or Workingham and finishes at the North East coast in either Newcastle or Sunderland. Hostels are a popular choice of accommodation among participating cyclists since they offer groups sized rooms and a sociable atmosphere where guests can mingle and chat about the days events.

By tradition, the route is commenced by dipping the back wheel into the Irish Sea in Cumbria followed by dipping the front wheel in the shores of the North Sea. The route takes under a week, on average to complete, and due to the kinder gradients and prevailing winds, is usually completed from West to East.

The route passes through the English Lake district, the Eden Valley and the Pennines, uncovering some of Britains most magnificent scenery and jaw dropping landscapes while revealing unspoilt villages and hamlets along the way.

Independent Hostels offer a friendly and convenient place to stay for cyclists along their journey and at half the price of a B&B or a hotel. You will likely meet and exchange stories with other cyclists and maybe even share a few useful tips when planning your next leg of the route.

Below are a number of Independent Hostels located on the Sea to Sea cycle path.

Tarn Flatt Camping Barn

Close to St Bees and the historic harbour town of Whitehaven, the camping barn is on a working farm and is an ideal place to start the 140 mile cycle ride.

Swallow Barn Camping Barn

Swallow barn lies in the picturesque Loweswater Valley and couldnt be more convenient being right on the door step of the Coast to Coast cycle path. The camping barn is situated on a working beef and sheep farm and dates back 1670.

Eden Valley Bunkhouse

Half a mile off the Coast to Coast route and 25 minutes from Ullswater makes this 17th century sandstone farm a perfect place to spend a rest-day during the cycle ride. The bunkhouse has spacious rooms and a recently refurbished kitchen.

Barrington Bunkhouse

Nestled within the north Pennines and close to attractions such as the Beamish open air museum and Killhope mining museum, Barrington Bunkhouse offers cyclists comfortable accommodation in an area of outstanding beauty. The bunkhouse is popular with cyclists riding the C2C route and walkers on the Weardale way.

Hownsgill Bunkhouse

Howsngill Bunkhouse is ideally positioned for National Cycle Network Routes 7-14 including the C2C cycle route. The Bunkhouse and Tea rooms are situated on the Lydgetts Junction and provide dining space for 12 , secure storage for bikes and a wet area.

Albatross Backpackers In!

After dipping your front wheel into the North Sea to mark the end of the 140 mile cycle ride, why not spend your final night(s) in this centrally located backpackers hostel. The vibrant hostel is located on Grey Street, one of Newcastles most prestigious and architecturally pleasing streets.

I’m "Barrington Bunkhouse", but I have noticed that you have left out "Swallows Rest", I’m pretty sure they are with IHG .... on my recommendation !!!

For those wishing to stop off in Keswick, Denton House is situated alongside the old railway cycle path on the outskirts of Keswick, with an exit ramp at the garage next door you don’t get much closer to the C2C route. Free tea and coffee, hot showers, internal bike store, central heating, drying room, linnen provided, pub only 200m away and a 5 minute walk from the town centre. What more do you need?
